Tweet! Tweet!

I know some of you are still lagging in the discovery of Twitter's awesomeness. That's okay. I'll let it go a while longer. After all, I was once in your shoes; sad, lonely, bitter, perhaps a bit arrogant, and certainly far too busy to be bothered by such trivial nonsense as what Joey Smith of Bumblersville, AK had for breakfast this morning. Who the hell cares what Joey ate? I sure don't.

Plus, what's all that nonsense with the "@" and "#" signs? Way too confusing. Better to get back to your freshly baked, hot-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies and watch Oprah.

But, wait! Don't give up so fast! Twitter is so much more than random ampersand and number signs and what Joey's having for breakfast. It's more. It's oh, so much more! And you can still eat all the cookies you want. Remember, you're on the internet - no one can see you! (Well, except for the aliens, but that's a whole 'nother story...)

Want to connect with other writers? Want to get great tips from agents? Want to participate in chats regarding the publishing biz? Then get your lazy bum over to Twitterville and start tweeting! It's fun, easy, enlightening, surprising, and ever-changing. Go on. Dive in. The water's a perfect 85 degrees.

Just don't tell me what you ate for breakfast.

I'm singing in the choir! Tweet Tweet with an occasional chirp chirp in there.
Twitter is one of those things that no one will get until they actually engage.
Once they do, they dive right into the bird bath~
You have grown beautiful twitwings~

Rebecca, Thanks, honey! My wings are starting to feel comfortable in flight.;-)

I have discovered great friends in Twitter, Debrah! Some amazing connections and insights.

nsiyer, Follow me, then, my friend!

I would have to say that I'm lukewarm about it. I find that I don't tweet often, but I enjoy reading others' tweets. I've found some good info there. I'm not giving up on it, never fear, but I'm not sure I'll ever be much of a Twitterpresence. LOL

Hi Debra-
So cool to connect via the internet.
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. I appreciate the hugs, virtual or otherwise.
As you might know, I LOVE Twitter. So, far, I've made amazing contacts using it and garnered valuable advice from people I follow.
Looking forward to getting to know each other, Debra!
Tweet, Tweet,
Stephanie

I don't spend much time on Twitter, but you are not the first to insist one should be a part of it. I vow to spend more time on Twitter.

Beth, Lukewarm is fine. It depends what you want to get out of it. For serious writers, it's a great tool to network and learn. Talented writers who aren't sure if they want to be "serious" (cough, ahem, you know who you are) are welcomed with open arms.

DebraLSchubert said...

Stephanie, I'm glad we found each other! Now we get to "hang out." ;-)

DebraLSchubert said...

Amy, Yay! I'm taking your vow seriously. Make sure you tweet me from time to time.;-)

I ate a blueberry muffin.

Oh wait, I wasn't supposed to tell, right? I don't always follow directions! ;-)

Hmmm, was this post directed at me? :-) You don't I'm not tweeting. I probably will eventually, once I feel like I have something to chirp about. My feelings are similar to Beth but at least she's on there.

Right now, I have nothing. No manuscript, no characters, no plot, zero. So what could I tweet about? - "Hi, I'm Mandy and I'm a loser who has nothing to write about (yet). What's new with you?"

Kelly said...

I had a donut and a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast (I ate breakfast with my son's fifth grade sleepover buddies), and I still haven't joined the Twitter madness yet. Perhaps one day I will tweet.

Chocolate Covered Daydreams said...

I tweet, I tweet! LOL I just started a month ago so I'm in the category of not understanding the # and @'s but I'm learning.

I'm now following you!

I have a twitter account, but I'm still trying to figure out how it all works. Thanks for the push!

Been on Twitter for almost a year now... still not going to drink the Kool-Aid. Too much crap to sift through for the 1 in 1000 useful tweet. And I still think "tweeting" sounds gay as hell.

DebraLSchubert said...

Mandy, I LOVE blueberry muffins! Seriously, it's fun. You don't have to be a writer to tweet. You just have to have a pulse. And be adorable. Therefore, you qualify.;-)

DebraLSchubert said...

Kelly, That sounds like my normal breakfast and I can't blame my kids. I've got a dysfunctional sweet tooth. Change that. It's incredibly functional!

DebraLSchubert said...

CCD, Let me know if you have questions. I'm certainly no expert, but I could try to help.;-)

DebraLSchubert said...

Susan, Happy to push.;-)

DebraLSchubert said...

Linda, Tweeting isn't gay, but there are gay tweeters.

I know, this is so true. I signed up for Twitter a looooong time ago and all I saw was 'Oh I'm at the mall!' or 'Chinese or Italian tonight?'

I was like, seriously? Wow--don't have time for this. However, as it took hold, the writing community really morphed it into a useful tool. I'm thinking it may be time to fine my account info and use it.

kelliforniadreaming said...

I've just become a tweeter too, although am feeling like a twit at times! And have just discovered TweetDeck, which is amazing.

Tweet On!

DebraLSchubert said...

Angela, I know - it takes a while to get the hang of it. But once the magic sets in, it's all candy and ice-cream.;-)

DebraLSchubert said...

Kelli, We all feel like twits sometimes. That's got nothing to do with Twitter! And, yes, Tweetdeck rocks. I'm still trying to figure out all the bells and whistles. ;-)

Karen Walker said...

Oh, I want to say GRRR. Maybe it's an age thing. I have had a Twitter account and when I sign on, I see the same few people and their tweets, which mean nothing to me. I truly don't understand how this is a viable tool.HELP!!
Karen

DebraLSchubert said...

Karen, If you want, you can E-mail me and we'll chat.;-)

koralee said...

hummmmmm...keep talking you almost have me sold...tee hee...I still don't get it but then once apon a time I didn't understand this blogging thing either...I am very slow at everything....one day you can say..."told you so!" xoxoxo

DebraLSchubert said...

Koralee, I'll keep working on you. How's this - it's where all the cool people hang out - cool people who love the color blue. Does that help? ;-)

Big Plain V said...

Twitter's paying you to advertise for them, aren't they?

DebraLSchubert said...

Ray, You just can't keep a secret, can you?

Midlife Jobhunter said...

I'd probably only tell you when I was going to the bathroom.

Tweet on,Debra. Please enjoy it for me.

I did look up tweets, however, on the Perseid meteor night. I wanted to know if anyone was seeing any. Most interesting comments. Continues to amaze me how we now communicate.

DebraLSchubert said...

MJ, I know - it ain't your grandma's world anymore! So much for writing a letter or saving your pennies for a long distance phone call. The modes of communication seem to know no bounds.

Steph Damore said...

Okay, okay, okay. I'll try Twitter. I've only been resisting because I already spend too much time online when I should be doing other things (like preparing for class tomorrow).

On a side note Debra - for being such an awesome blogger and commenter, I've decided to honor you with the "You Don't Say? Super Commenter Award"!!! Stop on by my blog to claim your award.

DebraLSchubert said...

Steph, I hope you love Twitter. Let me know if you want some tips on how to get started. And, I'm humbled, honored, and so appreciative of the award! Blinking tears away.;-)

SM Blooding said...

I was a dubious Tweeter at first, but I finally figured it out! Well, it helped that I finally found other writers who like to talk about...(go figure) writing! *happy smile* Now, I'm a lovely Tweeeter, too. I don't Tweet every day, but...fairly regularly.

DebraLSchubert said...

SM, Glad you found me. We'll have fun in the twitterverse together. Or is that twitosphere? Either way. Good times.;-)

Kasie West said...

Who's baking chocolate chip cookies? I'm so there.

DebraLSchubert said...

Kasie, I'm always baking or eating cookies or brownies. After all, life is short - eat dessert first! Bring a glass of milk and pull up a chair.;-)

Solvang Sherrie said...

I avoided Twitter for SO long, certain that it was nothing but a time suck. But I love #kidlitchat and I've found some great links from people like you. I limit my time on there, but it's been fun and informative. And thanks for the RT!

jdcoughlin said...

You are so funny! I have been tweeted out lately, but you are so right. Need to get back there. I do love those queryfail agentfail rants. I mean, discussions. Hey, anytime an agent starts yapping about anything, except maybe what they had for breakfast, I'm there.
PS I love your new header! That's the peace I need today.

DebraLSchubert said...

Sherrie, It is fun. I love being in the loop and networking with writers and agents. It just feels "right."

DebraLSchubert said...

Judith, I love when you stop by! And I'm glad you like the new header. A bed, cat, and a book - how perfect!

Stephanie Faris said...

I use Twitter to let people know when I've posted my blog but I've been bad lately about remembering to log in every morning and post it! Other than that, I'm not really sure how Twitter works. I'd much rather use the Status Updates on facebook for keeping up with people.

DebraLSchubert said...

Stephanie, I love it for the book biz connections. Tweeting w/writers and agents is the bomb.

My username wouldn't fit so I told twitter to kiss my ass.

DebraLSchubert said...

BBSD, And did they?

corvedacosta said...

I joined twitter after months of saying I will never be on it. Joining the site is fun, and you do get the purpose of the '@' and '#'.

Not only is it goo for networking but you can follow your interest which is great and exciting.

DebraLSchubert said...

corvedacosta, Absolutely! Following what interests you is inspiring and fun. So much to learn from people!
