The Opposite of Speed Dating

Most Gracious Thanks
First of all, I want to thank each of you who chimed in about our gig on Friday night. I was especially thrilled with the response from those of you who listened to and enjoyed our music. That is one of the highest compliments a singer/songwriter can receive - I am deeply humbled and grateful.

On a Different Note...
I'm kicking it into high gear, folks! I've got a new partial out to an agent I'd practically chop my left arm off to have represent me (that way I could still write). I'm not holding my breath, so no need to worry about my health. (Although, chopping my arm off would be a bit of a health concern - one I hope I have to ponder!) I'm also continuing to query like a crazy person. The rejections are barely even stinging anymore. Instead of feeling like a big, painful wasp bite, they're more like an annoying gnat. I gently swat at it and it goes away. In fact, I figure every time I get one, I'm that much closer to finding The Perfect Agent. It really is a courting process. You send your "scent" out into the world and see who finds it most pleasing. Then, you wait, and wait, and wait for your date with destiny... (The Perfect Agent's ETA is about 50%-75% slower than the ETA's at Philly Int'l. Airport. And that's really saying something.)

How many of you are awaiting your speed date with destiny? And how is the "dating" process going?

I just watched the movie Serendipity, so we're on a "destiny" wavelength here. I hope destiny moves in all of our favor. Good luck with your partial, fingers crossed!

Congratulations! Good luck! And sending lots of good Karma sprinkles your way! I know exactly how you feel, I was right where you were last August when 50 queries later, I found my agent--hehehe! Or rather, she found me and I said YES! It's gonna happen.

Great good luck with that dangling partial! But definitely think long and hard about whacking off that arm. While I admire the dedication of those who are willing to go the amputee distance for what they want, I've yet to run across anyone who'd exact such a price - or even know what to do with an arm or a left testicle, once it was presented to them.

And it would be a shame to waste such a fine appendage.

Good luck with the partial!!! That's very exciting. I'm sending many warm, fuzzy thoughts your way. I'll be having my little speed date w/ destiny in a few months, after I revise my WIP. Yippee!!

Joanne, No surprise that we're on the same wavelength. I think it's the CT in us!

Giddy, Thank you so much! It's great to hear your story. 50 Queries Later... sounds like a great title for a book!

Jamie, Do you know that's my stage name? Love it. I guess you're right about the arm. I'll do my best to leave it tactfully in place.

Major progress and great attitude. Still in revisions here, so I guess I'm not even ready for a blind date. But one day soon, hopefully!

Good luck on your partial!

Wendy C mentioned you are also a rocker/mom/writer. I'm working on the rocker part...will be trying out for a band tomorrow night and feeling nervous as heck. (see my "Why not?" post for details on how this came about). Good for you on doing such an awesome gig.

Most of us aren't even brave enough to approach destiny and ask it out. Good for you!

Kind of went stagnant on the querying process once I got all excited over the new wip. I pretty much exhausted the email route, and now I need to make a list of snail mailers and that's probably what keeps me from jumping up and down. That, and both my partials and full got rejected, so I kind of just went blaahhhhhhhh.

Vivi, Thanks for the warm fuzzies, and good luck on your upcoming speed dating! I hope you fine a real honey.;-)

Angie, I try not to let the b*stards get me down! Let me know when you're ready for your blind date. I know a nice guy... Oh, never mind. Nice word ver.

Pink, Best of luck on your audition! Have you listened to our music? I'll pop over and check out your blog.

Debbie, I figure why the hell not. After all, this ain't no party - this ain't no disco - this ain't no foolin' around - this ain't no Mud Club or CBGB - I ain't got time for that now!!!! (Sorry, I got carried away...)

Sharla, I'm glad you're excited about your new WIP. My friend, Wendy, who just found her dream date (i.e., agent) said not to forget about the agents that only accept snail mail. You're not done yet, girlfriend!

Good luck with your partial!

As for dating, I have my partner, as you know. She's basically said "I love you, you're perfect, now change!" So I'm waiting on the "change" part.

DebraLSchubert said...

Wendy, Too damn funny. I loved that show, btw. Aren't all new lovers like that? You can only woo them for so long and then it's like, "do you think you could change this, do you think you could change that, do you think you could rinse the sink better after you brush, blah, blah, blah..." But, at least, you've got your Perfect Date!!!!! I'm hoping my opposite of speed dating produces one of those (real soon) as well. Until then, I'll rinse the sink however I damn-well feel like it!!!

Do y'all have a cd? or is it here on your blog and I've completely missed the boat and/or forgotten and/or was too self-involved to see it?

(thank you thank you for ordering Tender Graces *smiling* - it means a lot...and yes! I am going to be signing plates for those that are ordered direct from the publishers *smiling again*)

Oh, and on that agent - I don't have one, but now I'm told I should think about getting one...lawd! maybe I'll get lucky and enough TG's will be sold so that agents will contact me? you think? haw! hold my breath? laughing....

DebraLSchubert said...

Kat, You can upload my songs directly from the Karma Chain website (not the myspace site, the other one). It's 99 cents a song. If you have any trouble, let me know. We're currently working on a new CD. I'll let the world know when it's ready.

I can't wait to get your book! And yes, if you sell bunches (which you will) that will definitely help catch the eye of a prospective opposite of speed dating agent.;-)

I'm not there yet. Still working on the ms. Hang in there. Eventually, you'll find the best agent for you. Who knows? You may even be surprised at who ends up representing you. Good luck.
