I Prefer Kittens & Puppies

I Prefer Kittens & Puppies
Apparently, I am cursed? blessed? with breakdowns lately. This weekend was one of the hardest of my life (not pertaining to my writing, btw). I will not name names, but suffice it to say it's been rough. Real rough. I'm trying my best to go with the flow and not "be" any certain way. I'm an unusually upbeat type. To quote my mc from my book who bares a striking resemblance to her creator: I consider myself a staunch optimist, and optimists don't think or talk about pain. We prefer happy thoughts. Flowers. Kittens. Puppies. That sort of thing. I couldn't have said it better myself (;-).

I know life has its ups and downs, ins and outs, and all those other relevant and annoying cliche's, and I know I'll make it through. But it's still pretty damn rough. Like George Harrison sang so beautifully many years ago, "All things must pass - all things must pass away..." Also, my beautiful and brilliant sister, Laurie, reminded me that the path to the light of the soul is often found through melancholy and sadness. I have one thing to say to that: "OK, soul. You can stop blinding me now!"

Hang in there.

Mercury's gone retrograde, which SUCKS and makes everything harder (stay low, stay quiet, go shopping).

And Saturn's Retrograde, so any life lessons you didn't learn in its last retrograde will come back to kick you in the butt.

Breathe, take your time communicating slowly and clearly (Mercury), give yourself alone time, and know that lots of people are pulling for you, even in the tough times (and even if they just happened to stumble across your blog today).

Devon, Welcome! It's so nice to read all of your comments. I hope you'll follow my blog - I'll certainly check yours out as well. Good for you for hosting an inauguration party. Go Obama! And, what do you mean you're not going to give me any sympathy re: editing? I thought that's what friends are for! Seriously, I do love the process. To me, writing is writing, whether it's brand new stuff, 2nd draft, or 15th draft. I learn something every time.

I hope your breakdowns pass and are followed by manuscript requests. Your optimism will shine through!

Regarding the Niantic photo, we had talked months ago, my fam vacations at Point O'Woods in Old Lyme, and we're frequently in Niantic, particularly the IGA? So I thought I'd mention the Niantic Diner in a blast from your past! I guess our kids wouldn't know each other b/c we didn't live in Niantic, but I wouldn't be surprised if during the summer, our paths had crossed!

Well, I've been going through a 'thing' myself. And I have been thinking long and deep about 'embracing my inner darkness' cuz it's there if I like it or not. It is to be human.
And then... get this, I have a point, I find out about this book called Broken Open by Elizabeth something-or -other and it's about finding spirituality through your inner darkness. So, ya, I bought it today and am looking forward to reading it.
Hope things get better for you soon.

I like the kittens and puppies attitude, except for me, it's espresso in the morning and Guinness at night.

And all is made well.

Joanne, It's a good thing my memory is not counted on for anything of importance. I do, however, manage to get myself dressed most mornings.

And, amen to breakdowns passing!

Elizabeth, I actually thought of you as I wrote this post today, since I know you've been going through some tough times as well. I hope my post brought you some comfort. Sometimes just knowing we're all in this together helps. And, keep on smiling!;-)

Ray, More proof you're smarter than me.

Look, I said I'd fix the chair - ease up!!! (smile)

Angie, Thanks. You're a doll.

Mollie, I'm glad you could read through the muck to get to the real root of the problem. Life's just not the same around here without my chair...:-(

On another note: Love your elevator pitch on Big Plain V!
